Dear Edward,
Our bell inspector uses a soft cloth and a very serious expression. Today she polished a bell until she could see her hat in it. The inspection ended with one gentle ring and a satisfied nod across the bench.
You are 7 years old. There is plenty of room for new ideas and another try. I still occasionally wrap a present before checking which end is up!
I smiled to see “bike riding” in my notes. Learning to steer and stop deserves as much care as getting going. Enjoy the progress at your own pace.
A reindeer nudged the stable broom until it fell neatly into my arms. The keeper said it was probably curiosity. I said it looked suspiciously like an invitation to help, and swept the doorway while we talked.
I have also made a note of “helping others”. A helpful act can mean more than you realise. Thank you for making room for somebody else.
I have marked Ireland in the travel book. In my imaginary Ireland rehearsal, an elf folded the Ireland page into a fan. We flattened it carefully before plotting anything.
And what is this: “a box of shortbread”? My snack notebook has gained an interesting entry. The elves insist crumbs do not count as wrapping decorations.
Someone left a paper star in the hallway window. As I walked past, it turned gently on its thread. Such a simple thing, but it caught my attention long enough for me to stop thinking about the next job.
Now, Edward, there is no perfect way to enjoy Christmas. I hope there is room for something that feels right for you.
With a very merry Christmas hello,
Santa Claus
The North Pole
P.S. I have approved your Nice List certificate. The seal is official; the elf’s proud grin is entirely unofficial.
